Ed Rafferty

Ed Rafferty, Pennsylvania native considers himself to be a realist painter. His watercolors reflect a handling of this media that is truly unique to this artist.

"I have always had a strong desire to interpret my subjects with realistic representation combined with the honesty and sincerity that must come from within the artist. This, I feel is what makes a world of realistic art transcend mere photographic reproduction. The artist breathes in the life that a photograph cannot have." Thus, was the birth of his trademark - the handling of the light and dark, composition and detail. Because of many key elements, each approach is different and adds to the uniqueness of each painting, even though there may be similarities of subject matter.

Ed's works are not limited to subjects from his immediate surroundings. Frequent travel to New England provides him an overwhelming array of ideas. Trips to the south and California have also been recorded as paintings. While not confining himself in subject matter and new ideas, Ed retains the integrity he has been known for.

Ed, a graduate of the Hussian School of Art, has exhibited in many invitational, group and one-man shows, including Historic Yellow Springs Annual Art Show since 1981; Philadelphia Water Color Club and one-man shows at the Maine's Massachusetts House Gallery in Maine since 1984; and Baltimore Water Color Mid-Atlantic Regional Show, Md.

Many of Ed's paintings are included in private and corporate collections, including Subaru of America, Bell Telephone of PA., Sun Oil Corporation and E.I. Dupont de Nemour, Inc.
